A Titanic awakening - Snooze!
We all hate getting out of bed. Sleeping rocks. So wouldn't it be good if waking up rocked as well? It does if you've got a Retro iPod Alarm Clock on your bedside table. This sleek dock/speaker system/waker-upper looks like a modern take on those twin-belled alarm clocks of yesteryear. You know, the ones that shook your fillings out every time the hammer started dinga-linging on the bells.
But closer inspection reveals that this baby's 'bells' are actually cunningly disguised 360° 3W omni speakers. And the 'clock' itself is a dock for your iPod. But wait - here's the really good bit: once this ingenious thingamabob syncs with your iPod, you can set the whole shebang to wake you up with any playlist, song, podcast or sound file you fancy.
Pump up the volume
The Retro iPod Alarm Clock even features a snooze function, so you can doze away for an extra nine (don't ask, we don't know) minutes. That's more than enough time to whistle three Arctic Monkeys' tracks under the duvet or hum Stairway to Heaven in its entirety into your pillow before the next blast of music assaults your lugholes. Speaking of which, a large chrome knob lets you adjust the volume; handy when you've mistakenly set Nine Inch Nails as your wake-up call on a Sunday morning.
Adjustable for different iPods
This stylish bit of kit is powered via an AC adaptor, so it charges your iPod as you sleep. It even tells your iPod to switch to clock mode the second you pop it in. What's more, the great sounding speakers allow you to listen to your iPod in bed without earphones (which, let's face it, are joke uncomfortable, especially if you're lying on your side).
Multipurpose and gorgeously chic, the Retro iPod Alarm Clock is the ideal pressie for sleepyhead iPod owners who hate bells and beeps. So shake a leg and hit Buy before everyone wakes up to this brilliant idea.
Three different styles to choose from.

Pretty cool, I have set up play lists for each day of the week. By Friday I wake up to drumNbass to celebrate the end of the week!
I use a 160Gb classic iPod with it, but also have an iPhone which can play music out the speaker, but will not charge through the clock. A warning message is displayed warning that it is not supported.

I love this but PINK !! No, no, no... it will clash with my green nano. More colours please, pretty (not pink) please.
Firebox says: Good news Kay, its now available in black or white, either of which will go nicely with green! :-) Kay, Notts - Mar '07 |
Hey, I am about to buy one, but I was kind of scared about not to work with my iPod Touch.
Care to give a hint?
Thanks in advance!!
Firebox says: Hi Luke, you'll be be pleased to know it is compatible with the iPod Touch. Luke Fontana, Argentina - Jul '08 |
Don't know if I'm the only one but after reading the instructions a zillion times I still cant get it to work as an alarm properly. It just bleeps a few times instead of playing the song I set up for it to play. Any suggestions. Its for the 30g video iPod.
Firebox says: Hi Gareth, in order to stop your alarm clock from beeping you need to hold down the snooze button for a few seconds and it should then beep twice and your main menu should appear on your iPod screen. If this doesn't work then take your iPod off the clock and redo Gareth, London - Jan '08 |
This is my new baby but it doesn't work with the touch as it's supposed to due to differences in the menu setup. However I got it to accept my touch by setting up with a nano. Hope this helps those who weren't sure.

In reply to some of the questions...It does NOT work with the new Nano video. Currently the Nano Video goes into a screen saver mode after some time and does not come out of paused mode when the alarm should go off. I think this applies to some of the other new iPods and hopefully will be corrected by a software update from Apple. Also the new Nano is too short for this clock, to get it out you have to get your fingernails underneath and rock it off the connector...can't be good for it.
Firebox says: nice one Philip, thanks for the info! Philip, UK - Nov '07 |
This seems great, but do you know if it works with a first generation classic iPod (the big ones) ? thanks.
Firebox says: Hi Robyn, they certainly do. They work with all iPods with the standard iPod docking port. Robyn, Devon - Nov '07 |
Will this work with the iPhone?
Firebox says: Hi Amanda, no sorry it's only compatible with iPod's Amanda, Uk - Nov '07 |
I want to get this as a gift for someone - will it work with the iPod mini?? I've seen the same product on another site and I'm confused!! Please tell :-).
Firebox says: Hi Kat,
Sure does - it is compatible with ALL iPods except iPod shuffles. Kat, LONDON - Nov '07 |
Will it work for the new I-Pod Touch???
Firebox says: Yes, it is definitely compatible with the new I-Pod Touch Megs. Megs, N. Ireland - Nov '07 |
