Sun Jar

|
 It's not magic, it's machine! |
Collecting sunshine sounds like something a Bond villain might do on his day off, but it's actually something the
charming little Sun Jar does every day. That's because this traditional-looking frosted glass container houses a solar
cell, battery and LED lights.
The idea is to leave the Sun Jar near a window or under some decent artificial light so that it can collect energy
throughout the day. Then when darkness falls it provides a warm, ambient glow. Clever eh?
This ingenious marriage of modern technology and good old-fashioned styling has been created by hot avant-garde
designer Tobi Wong, and we reckon it's a classic in the making. After all, up-to-the-minute styling is fine and dandy,
but sometimes it's nice to stare at something that doesn't look like it's fallen off the back of the Starship
Enterprise. Besides, messing around with jars and candles is a real rigmarole.
The enchanting Sun Jar is ideal for adding a magical touch to your evening soirees. But don't just buy one (well,
do) because Sun Jars look even better in clusters. Here at Firebox HQ we've dotted the entire office with these
eco-friendly gizmos. Come nightfall you'd be forgiven for thinking you'd stumbled upon an enchanted grotto. Or a weird
pagan ceremony.
 Simple, eco-friendly lighting |
Ideal for tightwads who hate forking out on batteries/electricity bills, and (sun) spot-on for the ecologists amongst you,
the Sun Jar has countless uses around the home. And because it lacks the dazzling gleam of an electric light, it's
perfect as a gentle bedside lamp or a mood light at parties.
Apart from catching fireflies and throwing them in jam jars, we can think of no better way to add a touch of glowing
charm to your home. So get ordering; if you're anything like us, you could do with a few jars.

"An ideal night light for children." The Mail on Sunday |
"Sun Jars are the latest in a line of increasingly efficient ways of getting free light in the evening...Using several of them together would be perfect for parties or creating a romantic ambience." House & Garden |
"This gentle glow is equivalent to a candle's but is considerably safer and so can be used as a child's night light. In tests a grey November day generated enough power to keep the Sun Jar aglow for six hours. Ecologically, the lamp is a winner. Better still, the Sun Jar is waterproof, so it's perfectly practical for use in the garden." Sunday Times |

Brilliant device for those nights where you need a light that doesn't flicker. Very peaceful blue glow as well, bit of a problem with the charging since there's hardly any sun at the moment though.

Just got very speedy delivery of these yesterday, absolutely luv them, they charged up no problem despite it being a very, very dark, dull day (sleet & hail showers) and their glow lasted ALL NIGHT!! Back on site today to order them for my mum who fell for them instantly.

This is brilliant!
I got mine a few months ago, nifty delivery!
It says it ONLY lasts 5 hours but I've had it going strong all night.
I use mine in bed and bath mostly but sometimes I turn the lights off and gaze at it for hours!
I got the Moon Jar, I love it's cold nocturnal glow, shame the Sun's not blue!

I love these so much! I just bought the moon jar to compliment my sun jar, they'll be great for using in the yard when sitting out in the coming warmer weather!

I got a Sun Jar as a pressie at Xmas! Had loads of fun turning the lights on and off to see how fast it reacts. Totally love it. Same effect as a candle but with setting a fire alarm off :).
Tina, Hants, UK - Dec '07 |
This product is wonderful, they are worth the money!
Emily - May '07 |
Wanted one of these for ages but could not afford it owing to firebox birthday in june managed to get a moon jar, the photos really dont do it justice I expected a jam jar size but was pleasantly surprised it is far bigger than I expected, it is about twice the size of a standard jam jar!
Nigel Jennings, Mansfield - Jun '08 |
Love this product!!! It lasts a good long while when fully charged, and adds a gorgeous ambient effect to a room. I use mine instead of a bedside light for a subtle glow, so its economical too! So simple, yet very effective and charming.
Rebecca, Oxford - May '08 |
Got as a Christmas prezzie. Just great. My only problem is in the Winter it runs out before the evening. Still recommend it to anyone.
Rachel, Woodley - Mar '08 |
Just been given this jar of Instant Sunshine as a belated house-warming and birthday present. I love it. The glow is so peaceful and calming, plus delightful to wake up during the night and see its warm glow!!!!!
